Electrolysis is the only medically recognised method of permanent hair removal.
Each hair is treated individually and requires more than one treatment to achieve permanence. However, regrowth after each application of current is finer and lighter until the hair ceases to grow.
With electrolysis, unlike other hair removal methods, there is no risk of further stimulating hair growth.
Because electrolysis can treat any hair colour on any skin type, and can be performed on anywhere on the face and body, it is an ideal option for anyone seeking permanent removal of unwanted hair.

A fine, sterile, single use probe is inserted into the hair follicle. The electrologist will depress a foot pedal to release a current which you feel as a slight heat sensation. The current cauterises the hair root, damaging the hair germ cells to prevent the hair growing in future. The hair can then be gently lifted out of the follicle.

It is hard to determine exactly how many treatments will be needed to achieve the desired results for each client, because this is dependent on a number of factors including the extent and density of the hair growth, the phase of hair growth, what temporary hair removal methods have been used in the past, as well as a client’s availability, budget and tolerance level. Come and see us for a consultation and we’ll be able to give you an estimate based on your circumstances.

Normal skin reactions following electrolysis are redness of the treated area, slight swelling of the tissue and a warm sensation or prickly feeling depending on the area treated.
On more sensitive skin, small pin prick crusts can occur in the 24 hours following treatment. These can last for 2-3 days in the face area, and 15 days on the lower limbs or body, and will flake off naturally as the underlying skin heals.
Also, as electrolysis occurs beneath the surface of the skin, treating an invisible target where the hair is connected to capillaries, small localised bruising at the follicle entry can occur. These will fade over a few days.
Due to these potential side effects, it is best to factor in any related downtime for skin healing to your treatment planning.
